1. Luna Maria: These are the dark areas spread across the moon. Maria is Latin for ‘seas’ and are solidified lava flows from about 3.5 billion years ago. The lighter areas on the moon are called the lunar highlands due to their higher elevation.

2. Mare Tranquillitatis: Translated as the “Sea of Tranquility,” this region contains the landing site of Apollo 11 – the spacecraft that landed the first two humans on the moon.

3. Montes Apenninus: Montes Apenninus is the highest mountain range on the moon. It includes Mons Huygens, the tallest mountain on the moon, which is 17,424 feet high. The range extends over 250 kilometers.

4. Copernicus Crater: One of the most prominent impact craters on the moon. With a diameter of 93 kilometers, it appears on the moon with light-colored streaks or ‘rays’ on the lunar surface. These rays are formed by material ejected by the impact that created the crater.

5. Tycho Crater: Tycho is another prominent impact crater on the moon, with a diameter of 52 miles. It is surrounded by a gray halo and seems to be located near the southern polar region. The freshness of the crater and the material rays radiating from it suggest that this is a young crater.
