Since the launch of MOVA Globes in 2004, our line of solar-powered creations has undergone an incredible transformation and expansion. Our design collections have been expanded to include MOVA Space, MOVArt, Sports, and Special Moments, in addition to our core world maps. Moreover, the diameter sizes of MOVA Globes have been extended to three different sizes: 4.5”, 6”, and 8.5”. While most of our expansion focused on designs, we have always experimented with different sizes, partly due to the numerous inquiries from our fans and customers. Our very first production run of MOVA Globes was all 6 inches, but we soon discovered that people wanted a smaller and more affordable size, leading to the 4.5-inch globes. Let’s take a deeper look at the evolution of globe sizes and how each serves a different purpose.
8.5” MOVA Globes – Making a Statement
If you’ve seen our creations in a store, you’ve likely spotted a whole range of 4.5-inch globes, a splash of 6-inch globes, and maybe one or two 8.5-inch globes on display. Why so few of the largest sizes? While the largest MOVA Globes take up significantly more space, you only need to see one 8.5” MOVA Globe to appreciate its presence. This MOVA Globe comes closest to the size of a traditional desktop globe (about 30 cm) and, combined with its silent rotation, is the epitome of ‘making a statement’. The 8.5-inch globe is popular as a centerpiece for lobby displays or as a focal point on a conference table, offering a bold solution for those who prioritize size in their office and home decor. Not to mention that cities and countries are easier to identify, even if you have to wait more than 30 seconds for each world revolution. The silver and black metallic design (shown above), with latitude and longitude lines, is a crowd favorite and undoubtedly a contemporary marvel.
6” MOVA Globes – Versatility at its Best
Our original MOVA Globe size, the globe with a diameter of 15 cm, allows our designs and details to expand. This globe is not too large to overwhelm and light enough to hold and show to friends. It is versatile and continues to grow in popularity. Occasionally referred to as our “medium” size, the 6” size weighs only 6 lbs. and seems like a significant upgrade from the 4.5-inch size, allowing it to stand out in a room without compromising on sleek design or quality. The 6” MOVA Globe is now available in most of our design collections and can be used as a scale in your planet collection or simply as the big brother or sister of your 4.5” counterparts. See finer details more easily and attract attention faster with the 15 cm diameter size!
4.5” MOVA Globes – The Whole World in Your Hand
“He’s got the whole world in his hands!” You’ve probably heard that song when you were younger. It’s a common expression used to signify a great achievement or wonderful things that will happen in the near future. With our signature 4.5” MOVA Globe, that phrase becomes a reality. Picking it up, placing it in the palm of your hand, and watching it magically spin is an experience enjoyed by people of all ages, whether in a store, at a friend’s home, or at our booth at a fair. Every reaction of awe and excitement we see from a new person makes us proud of what we do and inspires us to go beyond that. Small enough to fit in your hand, yet impressive enough to bring a desk or bookshelf to life, the 4.5” MOVA Globe represents a true game-changer in the decor and technology industry.
We are often asked if we can make globes larger than 20.5 cm in diameter. We have even received requests for globes with a diameter of up to 60 inches! With a diameter of 8.5 inches, our current largest size already weighs a deceptively heavy 13 pounds. Some customers are even surprised by the weight of our 4.5” globes (4 lbs), especially when they hold them for the first time. MOVA Globes are filled with liquid, making them exponentially heavier with each increase. A globe of 30 cm, for example, would weigh about 10 kg, and for a globe of 150 cm, multiple people and tools would be needed to transport it; yes, the estimated weight consists of three digits!
